ABOUT
Learning. Teaching. Sharing.
As a girl who grew up in a small Ontario town with only one available school, I have a deep appreciation for the communities that grow out of shared education. My approach to teaching is inclusive, adaptive and highly catered to each student’s needs. My goal is to bring compassion and curiosity into the classroom. There is nothing better than seeing the excitement in a student who has just discovered something new about the world around them. In so far as I have been able to develop a pedagogical philosophy this early in my teacher training, I have made a commitment to centre empathy above all in my classroom. I am interested and invested in cultivating a trauma-informed practice that honours and values the lived experiences of students in an attempt to create a safe, healthy learning environment.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My teaching philosophy is living and breathing and continues to grow. At this time, I am deeply committed to cultivating safe spaces in which students not only feel that they belong but in which their autonomy, agency, and dignity is respected. I believe that modeling behaviour is one of the most powerful tools that educators can use to show students ways of coping with difficult emotions, conversations, and conflicts.
I hope to engage in a trauma-informed practice in which I centre empathy and value vulnerability so that when students leave at the end of the day they do so feeling respected and validated.
My philosophy is hinged on the premise that I embody what I espouse and I choose do so with courage and wholeheartedness.
